Happy Spring! It has finally stopped snowing here in the Midwest and the temps are heating up. Start taking your workouts outdoors!
Naturally I'm running a little behind on my blogging this month and it seems to be a common theme in my life. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I was born 12 days late. My husband is frequently annoyed with me when we are trying to go somewhere. Who else tries to squeeze way too many thing into a short amount of time?!?! On Saturday, we had a wedding to attend downtown at 5:00PM so I planned my day accordingly assuming we needed to be there by 4:45PM. My husband called me Saturday morning at 11:30AM and told me that we needed to be downtown by 3:00PM...almost two hours earlier than I had planned. YIKES!!! I still had to go to the bank, walk the dog, run a 5k, stretch, figure out what I was going to wear, and shower. We managed to get downtown by 3:10PM so I was only 10 minutes late. The moral of the story is that I typically need quick healthy options to choose from when it comes to meals and snacks so this month's Good Eats and Healthy Treats is all about convenience.
GOOD EATS: BIRDS EYE BRAND PROTEIN & SUPERFOOD BLENDS
I'm obsessed with the Birds Eye Brand Protein and Superfood Blends because you can pull them out of the freezer and they are ready to go after 5 minutes in the microwave! You can find them in the frozen vegetable section in just about any grocery store. My favorite Protein blend is the Asian Style, which is a mix of whole grains, edamame, carrots, and red peppers. It includes 10g of plant-based protein, no artificial flavors or preservatives, and it's a great source of Vitamins A & C and iron. The Hawaiian Style is my other favorite protein blend and I love the Barley & Kale and the Black Rice & Edamame Superfood Blends. If you haven't checked out Birds Eye, you should definitely stop by the frozen vegetable section next time you are at the grocery store. The Protein & Superfood blends are packed full of nutrition!
HEALTHY TREATS: LARABARS (CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE DOUGH, PEANUT BUTTER CHOCOLATE CHIP, PEANUT BUTTER COOKIE)
One of my absolute favorite healthy treats is a Larabar. They are gluten free, dairy free, and vegan. My favorite flavor is Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. It's made from just four ingredients: cashews, dates, semisweet chocolate chips, and sea salt. My second favorite flavor is Peanut Butter Cookie, which is only made from three ingredients (peanuts, dates, and sea salt). My third favorite is Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip (peanuts, dates, semisweet chocolate chips, and sea salt). I probably need to branch out and try some other flavors, but it's hard when you literally feel like you are eating a cookie for a snack. Each bar is about 200 calories and contains 4-5g of protein. Larabars are also a good source of dietary fiber, iron, and potassium. Comment below and let me know if you have tried some of the other flavors!
